Surviving Restaurants

Encouraging healthy eating habits when dining out is a challenge many people face. However, it needn't be a daunting task, especially if you're on a lifestyle transformation journey.

As someone who loves dining out, I can attest that it's possible to enjoy restaurant meals and maintain a healthy lifestyle. After all, going out for dinner should be an enjoyable experience, not a reason to derail your progress.

My top tips for eating out are pretty simple: stick to low sugar, low saturated fat, high protein, and complex carbs. Nine times out of ten, I'll choose steak, vegetables, and sweet potatoes with butter (yes, butter!). Plus, a glass of red wine to accompany my meal.

If I fancy a starter, I'll opt for something like chicken or fish. But I'll never have a dessert, as they're just empty calories that lead to an energy crash and fat storage.

If I'm feeling indulgent, I might finish off my meal with a small brandy. However, it's important to note that moderation is key.

Here's a quick list of my personal dos and don'ts when eating out:

DO:

  • Choose meat and vegetables
  • Enjoy a glass of wine (opt for wine over beer)
  • Have a starter

DON'T:

  • Order food with a lot of sauce
  • Choose anything without protein
  • Have dessert

Remember, enjoying your food, your life, and your body is all about finding balance. So, go ahead and enjoy dining out, guilt-free!
